ABOUT MAGGIE
Why web design for therapists?
After wandering a bit lost through my 20s—working in web design, pivoting to social work, and then returning to the tech world—I finally realized something: social work is who I am, while web design is what I love doing. So, I put the two together! Now I get to apply the creative and technical skills I enjoy to work that feels meaningful and aligned. I wasn’t sure I’d ever get to say this… but I truly love what I do.

Human-Computer Interaction | 2015
I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Stanford University, where I studied Human-Computer Interaction— the intersection of computer science, psychology, and design. Outside of academics, I sang in an a cappella group and worked at an Equine-Facilitated Therapy Center.

UX Designer | 2015-19, 2021-24
I spent seven years designing web tools for teachers, principals, and school district leaders as a User-Experience (UX) designer for several different education technology companies, including Renaissance Learning and IXL Learning.

Digital Nomad | 2018-19
In 2018, I set out to pursue a lifelong dream: solo traveling around the world. Over the next 14 months, I lived in six different countries while continuing my UX design work as a remote freelancer. Along the way, I discovered my love for salsa dancing, and took the first steps toward a new path by applying to MSW programs.

Master in Social Work | 2021
I earned my MSW from Smith College School for Social Work, during which I completed two clinical internships: working with youth in a community facing systemic barriers at Reach Ashland Youth Center, and working with seniors with severe mental illness at The Felton Institute in San Francisco.

Maggie Goulder Design | 2024
Dreaming of how I might combine my web design skills with my desire to work directly with people, I launched my web design business in 2024. I completed my first custom project—a website for a dance studio where I also had the joy of teaching salsa dancing!

Handmade Web Studio | 2025
After designing custom websites for a range of clients — from interior designers to tutoring companies and beyond — I chose to focus on what I’m deeply passionate about: mental health. Handmade Web Studio was created to help therapists and mental health professionals build authentic, effective online presences.
THE HANDMADE APPROACH
The way I work isn't so different from the way you do. I listen deeply, ask the right questions, uncover what's really going on, and help you show up online as your truest, most compelling self.
I don’t just design for therapists—I design as someone who’s been a therapist.
I hold a Master of Social Work from Smith and have worked in clinical settings, which has helped me appreciate the values, language, and everyday realities that shape therapists’ work. These experiences help me approach web design in a way that honors both the practical side of your practice and the deeply relational work you do.
All those years in tech taught me that usability matters… a lot.
With a degree in Human-Computer Interaction from Stanford and seven years as a UX designer in the tech world, I bring both academic insight and hands-on experience to creating websites that are intuitive, user-friendly, and accessible. And, because I can code, I have the flexibility to build exactly what’s needed— so your site delivers a tailored user experience instead of being confined to standard templates.
That said, I know the secret ingredient to a standout website is human connection.
I’ve been told my superpower is that I really listen to my clients. I truly care about the relationships I build, and I often hear that the collaborative process feels supportive and rewarding. The result is a website that genuinely reflects who you are, that you’re proud of.
